Request Deferred is an intervention in the digitization process of the Israel State Archive. The process of requesting unavailable records related to the displacement and dispossession of Palestinians in 1948 and 1949 is automated.

In 2019, the majority of records have not been digitized. In this piece, the process of requesting unavailable records is automated.

For the duration of the installation, the script repeated filling out the online form hundreds of times to request records related to the displacement and dispossession of Palestinians in 1948 and 1949. All records were officially added to the archivists’ queue to be made public.

Bio

Or Zubalsky makes paintings, drawings, scores for viewing, and systems: encounters with silence and hope. They are a 2025 Jerome Hill Artist Fellow, and were previously a resident at Pioneer Works (2023), NEW INC incubator member (2023), and C/Change R&D Lab fellow (2023).
